Mogadore senior Jordan Poth is SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for March 18-24.

Our SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for March 18-24 is soft spoken but carries a big stick when it comes to her abilities in the sports arena.

Mogadore senior basketball star Jordan Poth has been named first-team All-Ohio after leading her Division IV Wildcats to an impressive 22-3 season, which culminated in a one-point loss in the district finals. “It was a good year I just wish it could have ended better,” said Poth.

Having topped 1,000 career points as junior, Poth’s senior statistics were big: 22.0 points, 7.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game, but don't really tell the story. “I am really going to miss playing with my teammates as we always hung out together,” said Poth. “I am really going to miss Sidwell (Amanda) as we’ve been doing this together for a long time."

Amanda Sidwell and Poth have been teammates since they were in grade school together as they even played youth football together in Mogadore.

Basketball started at a young age for Poth as she had to battle tooth and nail with her four brothers to just get court time and then to compete. “My dad really encouraged us to play sports and we all got involved,” she said.

Her dad, Steve, a former Kent State quarterback, mentored his daughter as she played quarterback for Mogadore youth football until the age of 13. “That was a lot of fun,” she said.

Mogadore’s dream season came to an end in the district finals two weeks ago as they lost to Cuyahoga Heights, 59-58. “That was tough, we should not have lost,” Poth said. She does not seem to be finished in basketball as she has set a long-term goal of getting into education and eventually coaching. “That's why I would like to teach is so I can teach sports to youngsters.”

For the time being, Poth is busy getting ready for the high school softball season. She is the team’s shortstop and last year hit .400 for the Wildcats. “I’ve been playing softball since I was 4 years old and I love being at the shortstop position."

It has always been quality over quantity when you get words from this All-Ohioan, but one thing is for sure she leaves it all on the court or the field. She has been a pleasure to watch at Mogadore the last four years.
