St. V-M track star Erica Hutson is this week's honoree
This week's SportsInk.com Athlete of the week comes from the fine track team at St. Vincent-St. Mary: Erica Hutson, who last weekend at the regionals in Lexington qualified in four events in this week's state championships.
“I did not like running at first, but I grew to appreciate the sport from a team standpoint,” Hutson said. “I thought it was just a sport for individuals, but now I love my team and they are my closest friends.”
Pam and Pat Hutson love that Erica has excelled at St. Vincent-St. Mary as not only an athlete but as a student as well. Erica’s father, Pat, also attended St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Erica has two sisters, Rachel and Megan, and a brother, Zach.
Hutson runs the 200, 400, 4x200 and the 4x400 for the Irish, and with her teammates will make the trip to the state meet this weekend.
“I love to run the 4x400 because it is the last race," she said, "So there is so much anticipation, plus I love the chase.
“We were lucky in Lexington but we are all intense, so I think we will do well this weekend.
“The positives from running have been many, including confidence and discipline,” Hutson said. She has also been a four-year member of the Irish soccer team, playing forward and midfielder.
Hutson will be running for Kent State next fall.
