Walsh Jesuit shortstop/pitcher Johnny Fasola is the SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week.

It’s been a busy week for Walsh Jesuit shortstop/pitcher Johnny Fasola: providing emergency relief pitching to beat Hebron Lakewood 4-1 in a Division II semifinal game on June 4; graduating on Sunday; hitting a solo home run in first inning of the state championship game on Sunday; getting drafted in the 36th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.

That all adds up to make Fasola the SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week.

Fasola capped his high school career at Walsh with his 10th home run of the season in the Division II state championship game on Sunday against Plain City Jonathan Alder, which the Warriors (30-2) lost 3-2 to the undefeated Pioneers.

In the semifinal game against Hebron Lakewood, the 6-2 senior hurled four innings of no-hit baseball while striking out five and walking one in relief of senior ace Tyler Skulina. Fasola also produced the offensive fireworks in that game with an RBI single in the first and an RBI triple in the third.

Fasola was part of a core group of Walsh seniors who appeared in three consecutive state championship games, winning it all in 2008.

He was the first of three Walsh seniors to be selected in the major league baseball draft earlier this week, being taken in the 36th round. Pitcher Greg Greve was picked in the 45th round by the San Francisco Giants and Skulina was picked by the Oakland Athletics in the 46th round.

Fasola is also a recruit at Kansas State University, where he will attend this fall if he does not sign with the Dodgers.
