A review of last Saturday's cross country results

Five Woodridge Bulldogs placed in the top 10 at the McDonald Billy Goat Challenge last Saturday in McDonald, Ohio.

 

McDONALD, Ohio – The Woodridge boys cross country team began its search for an unprecedented fifth straight Division II state title with an emphatic statement at the McDonald Billy Goat Challenge.

Not only did the Bulldogs best the 13 other teams at the invitational, but did so with all five scoring runners placing in the top 10 and finishing under 18 minutes. Senior Vibushan Sivakumaran and junior Drake Sulzer paced the field, finishing 1-2 with times of 17:07 and 17:23.4 respectively.
 
Seniors Jacob Onifer and Jimmy Charles finished about a second apart from each other in sixth and seventh places, respectively, and sophomore Matt Wojcik ended in 10th place to round out Woodridge’s lineup.

The Crestwood and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy teams also had a strong showing in McDonald, placing third and fourth, respectively.
 
A Royal Finish
 
On the girls side in the Billy Goat Challenge, senior Christina Blair led CVCA to a first-place team finish with a winning performance of her own in just over 19 minutes. Woodridge and Crestwood gave SportsInk.com schools a 1-2-3 finish at the race with the first seven runners all representing those three schools.

Senior Irene Frangos and sophomore Mallory Myers joined Blair at the top of the leader board with  third- and seventh-place finishes, respectively. Woodridge senior Maria Moore finished less than a minute behind Blair in second place with a time of 19:53.2, and fellow senior Morgan Willis was fifth.
 
The Red Devils were represented by senior Sammi Vaughn (20:42.1) and Karlie Lieberth (21:15.5) with fourth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively.

*St. Vincent-St. Mary got a strong performance from both its girls and boys teams at the GlenOak Golden Eagle Invitational. Maria Arnone’s third-place finish (19:31.18) led the Irish girls to a win. For GlenOak girls details, CLICK HERE.
 
*Jacob Swords’ third-place finish  (16:08.90) led the Irish boys to fifth place. For GlenOak boys details, CLICK HERE.
 
*Walsh Jesuit's Tony Hawkins and Brian Brennan were 1-2 at the Sandusky Run to Fun to lead the Warriors to a second-place finish.
 
*The Green girls were fourth at the Golden Eagle Invitational.
