Firestone sophomore golfer Patrick Schultz is the SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week.
This week SportsInk.com honors Firestone sophomore golfer Patrick Schultz as its Athlete of the Week. Last week, he fired an impressive 40 at Good Park Golf Course to lead the Falcons to another win.
"I knew he was special the first time I saw him swing," Firestone golf coach Dave Milo said. "He just had a special swing and mental approach that does not come around that often."
Golf started at an early age for Patrick when his dad had him swinging the sticks at the age of 4. "I loved it right away and now I try to play every day." Patrick said. Now 16, Schultz is leading the Falcons to what Milo hopes is another City Series championship.
Patrick carries a 3 handicap but realizes he must get better off the tee in the years to come to reach some of his goals. "I want to play at St. Andrews, that just looks like a challenge," Patrick said.
"He is a true leader on our team as a sophomore, senior Kyle Reilly and Patrick take charge of the team,” Milo said. "I’ve never needed to teach a thing to Patrick and I can’t wait for his younger brother to get here." Younger brother Brian also is a tremendous golfer.
Beth and Don Schultz have raised Patrick and Brian in Akron and Patrick loves that fact as it has given him plenty of opportunities to golf. “I love Mud Run golf course and my home course of Good Park,” he said.
Patrick uses Nike clubs all through his bag but has Titlist balls on the tee.
"My first round was a 96 at Good Park, I will never forget it," he said.
