East senior defensive end Trevoris Bell had 11 quarterback sacks in a three-week period to earn selection as SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week.

This week’s Athlete of the Week from SportsInk.com is senior defensive end Trevoris Bell of the East football team.

“I love to rush the quarterback,” said Bell, who sat out the first game of the season with a wrist injury but has registered 11 sacks in the three contests since, including five each against Barberton and Ellet.

Said East coach Damon Beasley, "He is a force, for sure. The folks in Akron are going to hear a lot about him before he is through here.”

Bell and his family moved to the Akron area from Warren, Ohio when he was in the eighth grade, and he quickly made his mark in Akron on the basketball court. But then friends started to tell him to try football.

He did try it, and it worked out.

"Basketball has really helped me with my discipline and speed on the football field,” Bell said.

Now he needs to get rid of that slender basketball build.

“If I can keep some weight on him, everybody is going to want to look at this kid," Beasley said. "He is a class act.”

The feeling is mutual.

"Coach Beasley is the reason I’m here today. He he has taught me about life,” Bell said.

Bell has two brothers, Treyaun and Treasure, and one sister, Lashawnda. Mom, Yana, brought the family to Akron four years ago, and at that time, he started looking for a team.

“That is when I met Coach, and he has been there for me ever since,” Bell said.

He is a three-year starter for both the football and basketball teams at East. Would he rather get a quarterback sack or a slam dunk in hoops?

“As I mentioned, I love to get to the quarterback,” Bell said with a big grin.
