WESTFIELD TWP., Ohio – In a matchup of two of the top Division II female runners in the region, Crestwood senior Sammi Vaughan recorded a new personal best, and outlasted Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy senior Christina Blair at the Cloverleaf Colt Pack Invitational.
Vaughan’s time of 18:45 was nine seconds faster than last year’s individual champion, Blair.
Blair's CVCA (51 points) team however won the Gold Division championship and Crestwood finished third (105 points).
In an interesting side note, Blair took second at Cloverleaf on her 18th birthday.
SportsInk.com area runners dominated the event, with the top four finishes and five of the top seven runners. Vaughan’s teammate Karlie Lieberth (19:25) finished third and Walsh Jesuit’s Melinda Renuart (19:39) placed fourth. Field junior Destiny Cosentino was seventh place in under 20 minutes. Cosentino and Renuart’s efforts were good enough to lead their teams to sixth and seventh, respectively.

Depth made all the difference as the Royals placed all five scoring runners in the top 25 of the meet.
On the boys’ side, the story was the Field Falcons, who finished second to Bay Village Bay, had all, but two runners post PR times. Senior Billy Darmon led the way at 16:59 over 5,000 meters, good for fifth place. Junior teammate Mike Robinson came in about a half minute later for 11th. Both Field and Bay had four runners finish in the top 25; however, Bay placed its next three runners all in the top 45 for the edge.
The Norton combination of Cody Slawter and Spencer Zeigler placed eighth and ninth, just one second apart at 17:29 and 17:30, respectively.
Hornets swarm JB Firestone
SULLIVAN TWP., Ohio – The Highland Hornets stood victorious at the JB Firestone Invitational, with both the boys and girls teams winning. Natalie Zidd (19:58) won the girls race to lead the Hornets past nine other teams. Highland placed five runners in the top 13. Buckeye’s Trisha Widenmeyer led the Bucks to third place in 22:10. Widenmeyer finished fourth individually.

Buckeye’s Ryan Gallagher outran a host of local runners to take the boys title. Buckeye, Highland and host Black River captured all of the top eight spots between them in a Medina County coup. Gallagher was joined by teammate Jerome Grzincic among the leaders with a fourth place finish to carry the Bucks to a second place team finish. The Highland trio of Zach Davis, Stuart Arbuckle and Cole Vandenberg led the Hornets to a team championship with a 2-5-7 finish. The host Pirates took third with Jared McFadden, Augustine Kazek and Tom Ziebro leading the way.
Sauers, Explorers take Second Sole
STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore Caroline Sauers was victorious with a time of 18:35 and helped the Hudson Explorers take the team title at Strongsville’s Second Sole Invitational. Fellow sophomore Madison Hartline captured ninth place for Hudson. Also in Strongsville, the Brunswick Blue Devils took third place, behind the strong running of Selena Pasadyn. The junior placed 11th with a time of 19:07.

The boys race saw Revere ace Josh Sabo earn the individual championship, but the Medina Bees take the team title with three runners in the top 10 and five in the top 22. In order, David Knack, Kevin Paradise, Brad Palocko, Robert Robinson and Tommy Menyes guided the Bees to a win.
Bulldogs Sweep Bob Reall Invite Division II
LANCASTER, Ohio -- In a head-to-head matchup with OHSAA challenger Unioto, the four-time defending state champion Bulldogs proved their mettle yet again.
Coach Jeff Howard's boys placed 2-3-5-7 and blew away Unioto 32-92. Senior Vibushan Sivakumaran took second place over 5,000 meters.
Woodridge made it a clean sweep of the Bob Reall when the girls, led by Maria Moore's second-place finish (19:08.5), won the overall Division II title topping runnerup Granville 95-127.
