Ellet senior Aaron Male is among eight SportsInk.com-area football stars who signed with NCAA Division II Walsh University in North Canton.

The Ellet Orangemen were 2-0 in the Akron City Series football standings (before a loss to Buchtel) thanks in large measure to big-play performer Aaron Male.

"I love being part of this team and I know that my success does not happen if my teammates do not do their job,” said the junior running back and safety. Male is humble and talented, possessing quick feet, great vision, and a unique way of finding cracks in the opposition’s defense.

“He is very good, plus he is smart enough to use the talent around him,” Ellet coach Joe Yost said.

Through five games, Male had scored nine touchdowns in three different ways: four receiving scores, three rushing touchdowns and two scores by way of kick returns. He had accumulated more than 900 yards of rushing and receiving offense.

“I see a hole and I try to hit it quickly,” Male said.

Football started for Male at an early stage as dad led him down the Pee Wee football path. He has loved the game ever since and is the starting center fielder and second hitter on the Orangemen baseball team.

“I love to hit in both sports, but stopping someone in football is great,” Male said.

Male had 76 rushing yards and 111 receiving yards in Ellet’s 41-12 win over Kenmore in Week 5. He scored four touchdowns in that game (one rushing, two receiving, one kick return) and had five touchdowns in the Orangemen’s win over East in Week 4.

On the season, Male is averaging 6.2 yards per carry and has three interceptions on defense.

“I feel I can compete with anyone in the city,” he said.

Last year, Devin Richardson was the featured back for Ellet and Male says he learned as much as could from him, especially about attitude. “He told me to never quit and always run hard,” Male said.

Ted and Gina Male are justifiably proud of their son, who is a team-first student and athlete. Male has a sister, Alana, in eighth grade in the Ellet system.
