Firestone senior guard Imani Gordon is SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for Dec. 5-11.

Gordon is averaging 19.2 points per game for the undefeated Falcons (5-0) and has signed a letter of intent to attend Cleveland State University and play basketball for the Vikings.

“It was a good fit for me," Gordon said. "I like the way they play, and they made me feel at home. Plus it's close to home.”

She is the reigning City Series MVP and three-year starter for coach Audley McGill, but her biggest basketball influence is a former Central-Hower cage standout.

“My sister, Dianca Gordon, really got me excited about basketball. She has been a great role model for me,” she said.

Gordon began to really enjoy the sport in sixth grade when she realized she had a knack for the game.

“That is when I grabbed the sport, and now it is just so important to me," she said. "I love the intensity of the game.”

McGill is in the midst of 11th season leading Firestone and sees a special person and player in Gordon. She reciprocates by serving as a leader on and off the court.

“I love being part of this team. We are family,” she said.

“I feel this team is going to go places we have not gone the past few years because we all believe.”

Gordon is surrounded by support at home from three brothers (Charles Jr., Sir Charles and Charlesten) and two sisters (Dianca and Adrena).

“My dad and mom deserve credit for raising our family and also for keeping me focused on the game and school,” she said.
