Point guard Anthony Keys has been on a tear and the Barberton senior is SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for Dec. 19-25.

This SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for Dec. 18-25 is the dynamic senior point guard for the Barberton boys basketball team, Anthony Keys.

"Anthony is a player who has really worked hard to get where he is," Magics coach Ken Rector said. "On and off the court, he is just a good person."

Added Keys, "I’ve always wanted to be a Magics basketball player. I love this team and my teammates."

Keys is on a roll this year, as he has been in double-digits scoring in every game, and is averaging 18.2 points per contest for the 4-1 Magics (3-1 SL).

"He really makes us go, but he also knows he has to do this for us to be competitive," Rector said.

After having three interceptions, Keys was second-team All-Suburban League in football in the fall as a defensive back and is now engineering the basketball squad. And engineering is also what he wants for his future, as he plans on pursuing a career in that field once he gets to college.

Keys is soft-spoken, but his teammates follow the senior's lead.

"He has earned the respect from the other members of his team through his hard work and effort," Rector said. "He has earned everything that is coming his way."

Keys had 22 points and 4 assists and was 12-of-12 from the free-throw line in a league win over Wadsworth two weeks ago. He followed that with 22 points against Revere and 25 against Tallmadge.

"At the age of 7, I knew I wanted to be part of this team," Keys said. "This is great."
