One of the state's premier track & field athletes, Cloverleaf senior Jennifer Foster has an excellent chance to win a state title June 3-4 in Columbus.
Our SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for May 8-14 is Cloverleaf senior and outstanding multi-event track athlete Jennifer Foster,.
Foster is a two-time state qualifier in pole vault and recently won Suburban League titles (May 12 & 14) in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and pole vault. She cleared 5-7 in high jump which is a school and meet record.
“It all started for me when my sister introduced me to track and I just fell in love with it,” said Foster. Her older sister -- Stephanie -- is a jumps athlete for Walsh University in North Canton.
“Jennifer is a tremendous person with a very high GPA and great character. She is a once in a lifetime athlete," Cloverleaf coach Frank Peters said.
Last weekend, Foster qualified for the Youngstown Division I Regional in high jump, pole vault, and 100 hurdles.
“I feel like my times are really going down at the right time, I know I am peaking at just the right time,” she said.
Foster has been awarded a scholarship for track and field next year at Ashland University.
“She is what great people are all about -- plus she will do whatever you ask of her," Peters said. "She will be missed."
Foster has been qualifying for the OHSAA state meet at Cloverleaf since her 10th grade year as she took fifth in pole vault.
A Lodi resident, she also has participated in gymnastics and that has helped her track technique, especially in pole vault. It's hard for her to believe she will graduate very soon.
“Yea, I’ve thought about that, I just have to go out and do my best, and the rest will take care of itself,” Foster said.
