Sophomore pitcher Quartni Whited (center) is one of three Springfield Spartans to earn first-team All-Metro. The Spartans will return seven All-Metro players in 2012.

Portage Trail Metro Division champion Springfield has placed eight players on the All-Metro softball team.

The Spartans (18-7, 12-2) won their first Metro title since 2005 -- the same year they won their last OHSAA state title. Three Springfield stars -- Kassy Flores, Sarah Stubbs and Quartni Whited -- were first team selections and led the way for 2011 Metro Coach of the Year Roger Errington.

Field, which had a lock on the championship previously, landed the division Player of the Year in senior Kelsey Coleman.

Southeast senior Kayla Williams, a first team choice, is bound for Georgetown College in Kentucky where she will continue her academic and athletic career.
