Tallmadge senior Derek "Charlie" Frye has committed to attend the University of Mount Union and play baseball for the Purple Raiders.
TALLMADGE, Ohio – Three more recent Tallmadge High School graduates have announced where they will continue their academic and athletic careers.
A state qualifier in both hurdle events, track standout Kyle Tywon has signed a national letter of intent with Kent State University.
Tywon placed fourth in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles at the Youngstown Division I Regional meet to advance to Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and the state meet.
He was the Suburban League champion in both hurdle events as well as long jump (22-08.75) and placed third in high jump (6-4). Tywon scored 36 points at the SL meet.
He was clocked at 14.80 in the 110 finals and 39.32 in the 300 finals.
Brittany Buehler plans to enroll at Walsh University in North Canton and play softball for the Cavaliers.
Tallmadge won a softball regional championship in 2009 and a district championship in 2010.
In addition, Derek “Charlie” Frye, a first baseman and pitcher for the Blue Devils’ baseball team, has agreed to attend the University of Mount Union and play baseball for the Purple Raiders.
Frye batted a team-high .467 with 10 extra base hits (two home runs) and a team-best 33 RBI. He also was 2-1 as a pitcher with a 3.82 ERA. The Blue Devils were 18-6 and won a Division II district championship.
