Ellet softball star Taylor Charles picks Hiram College

With Taylor Charles now playing for Hiram College, Ellet's tandem of Autumn Smith and Courtney Wright opened the season with 14 straight innings of no-hit ball and didn’t allow a run in games against Garfield, Buchtel and Kenmore.

 

AKRON, Ohio – Former Ellet pitching ace Taylor Charles will attend Hiram College and play softball for the Terriers, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. 

Charles was dominant in the circle the last four seasons for the Orangemen, accumulating a 66-20 career mark with a 1.22 ERA and 652 strikeouts. 

The highlight of the right-hander’s time at Ellet came in 2010 when the Orangemen won the Akron Division I District, before losing to eventual state champion Massillon Perry in a regional semifinal.

In her senior campaign, Charles compiled  a 19-3 record with a 0.98 ERA, while batting .494.

Hiram is coming off a 2011 season in which the Terriers finished 29-14, and 11-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The Portage County college advanced to the NCAA Division III Adrian Regional semifinals, before falling to DePauw University.

Charles will join a pitching staff that includes Waterloo alumni Alyssa Lane and senior Amethyst Brigham.
