NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Local cross country teams carried themselves through a hot and steamy Saturday morning at Hoover High School and made themselves feel at home at the Dave Clegg Invitational.

All four individual winners came from Summit County. St. Vincent-St. Mary swept the Division II and III boys and girls team titles, while both the boys and girls teams from Stow-Munroe Falls claimed top five finishes.

After winning the GlenOak Golden Eagle Invitational last weekend, the Lady Irish made it two-for-two on the season at the Clegg Invitational, placing their top five runners in the top eight to edge Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, which was the only other school to place runners in the top eight, by a 27-31 margin.

Junior Marissa Rossetti paced St. Vincent-St. Mary with a time of 19:34.12, good enough for second place.  Sophomore Julia Mendiola (4th), junior Amanda Sollenberger (6th) and seniors Tessa Weigand (7th) and Samantha Kirk (8th) all finished within a minute of Rossetti.

CVCA senior Sarah McIntosh won the Division II and III girls race in a time of 19:26.77.  Royals’ freshmen Samantha Bochovern (19:43.43) and Natalie Pasicznyk (20:24.36) also finished in the top five.

In Division I, Firestone senior Sarah Meek took home individual honors at 19:27.82, with Cuyahoga Falls teammates Lauren Scourfield and Allison Hainer coming in behind her for second and third place.  Scourfield and Hainer’s times of 19:37.75 and 19:44.05, respectively, paced the Black Tigers to a fourth place team finish, highest among the Division I girls teams.

Stow’s Kayla Anderson drove the Bulldogs to a fifth-place finish.  The junior traversed the course in 20:36.79, good enough for 11th place.

Copley-Fairlawn senior Nick Pupino won the Division I race, tackling the 5,000-meter course in 15:49.25.

Twinsburg had a pair of runners in the top 10 with sophomore Garret Crichlow (2nd) and senior Nick Schank (10th).

In Division II and III, St. Vincent-St. Mary again had five runners finish in the top eight, with seniors Patrick O’Brien (16:22.67) and Mike Hurley (17:12.53) finishing 1-2.  Juniors Matt Oswald and Mick Iacofano, and senior Sean Poholski followed behind in fourth, sixth and eighth place, respectively.

The Royals were the Irish’s biggest rivals in the boys race as well, with junior David Cremi (17:16.53) and sophomore Ben Bockoven (17:31.31) pacing CVCA in third and fifth place.
