Roundup: Highland girls soccer unbeaten after 2-1 win

Kent Roosevelt and Erin Waples defeated Cuyahoga Falls in girls soccer action on Saturday. In other games: Highland girls remain undefeated, and Brunswick boys hand Medina its first loss of the season.

 

GRANGER TWP., Ohio – Highland’s girls soccer team is still undefeated.

Sophomore Anna Rose Wiencek got to a second-half corner kick from senior Jessica Clark and headed the ball into the net to score the game-winning goal as the Hornets beat GlenOak 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Highland led at halftime when senior Olivia Petek scored on an assist from junior Olivia Aberegg.

GlenOak (3-3-0)  tied the game in the second half on a goal by Emma Angari.

Highland (5-0-1) outshot the Golden Eagles 8-4.

WALSH JESUIT 4, COPLEY 0. At Cuyahoga Falls, junior Kennedy Payne scored two goals as the Warriors stayed undefeated (6-0-1).

Senior Christen Westphal and sophomore Maddy Anzelc also scored for Walsh.

Warrior senior keeper Caitlin Jakubek made two saves.

ELLET 4, TRIWAY 2.  In Akron, Kendra Love scored twice to lead the Orangemen (3-4-0).

Taylor Gleespan and Andrea Santiago also scored for Ellet, which outshot Triway 14-7.

Cayli Cole made five saves in goal for Ellet.

WADSWORTH 7, NORTHWEST 0. At Wadsworth, junior Amanda Davies and sophomore Leah Runkle each scored two goals for the Grizzlies.

Runkle now has 14 goals on the season.

Wadsworth (5-0-0) also got goals from Brittany Fullbright and Logan Harvey. The Grizzlies outshot Northwest 36-2.

WELLINGTON 1, BUCKEYE 0. At Wellington, the lone goal for Wellington (5-0-0, 4-0-0) was scored by Jacoby Ziegler.

Buckeye goalkeeper Jessica Banas made 13 saves. Buckeye is 4-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Patriot Athletic Conference.

INDEPENDENCE 2, RAVENNA 0. At Ravenna, Halle Dorko and Jenn Wisniewski scored for Independence.

Senior Mandy Jones made five saves for Ravenna (4-3-0).

KENT ROOSEVELT 1, CUYAHOGA FALLS 0. At Kent, senior Maggie Connell scored the game’s only goal.

BARBERTON 4, MASSILLON PERRY 1. At Massillon, Jessica Mark scored two goals to lead the Magics, who are off to a 3-1-0 start.

Kiersten Shifferly and Jessie Frost also scored, while Allison Mazey and Taya Gross had assists for Barberton.

Perry got its only goal from Adriana Cosentino.

Barberton’s Nikki Thacker made four saves.
