Our SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week for Sept. 4-10 is Highland senior girls soccer standout Olivia Petek.

Through seven matches, Petek has scored 11 goals and is closing in on the single-season record at Highland which is 14.

“That has been my personal goal since the season started and I just hope I can keep it going,” Petek said, who has played soccer competitively since she was 5.

“Her confidence and composure are outstanding right now as she is just feeling the game,” said Highland coach Gina Fox. “The talent has always been there, but now she is a true leader on the field and off."

Highland is 5-1-1, after taking its first loss Sept. 12 against Archbishop Hoban.

“Things are breaking for me right now and now we've got to just keep it going,” Petek said.

Petek recognizes that the improved play of the team has created more chances for her to put the ball in the back of the net.

“We are moving the ball so much better, everyone is now involved which is giving all of us a chance to contribute," she said.

Petek also averaged 12.5 points per game for the Hornet girls basketball team last season.

“I’ve always loved sports, especially soccer, but now I have really taken to basketball and there seems to be more opportunities to score,” Petek said.

Her brother and two sisters (Nick, Elizabeth and Danielle) have all graduated from Highland.

“The program is blessed with a ton a great talent right now and Olivia is truly one of the best,” Fox said.
