STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – How close was the Brunswick girls cross country team from capturing the 2011 Fleet Feet Strongsville Invitational crown?

Try 1.2 seconds.

Dublin Scioto junior Jessica Cronau raced through the course in a time of 20:30.1, good enough for 29th place.  Blue Devil senior Alexis Uber was hot on Cronau’s heels, but couldn’t kick down her adversary, finishing 30th with a time of 20:31.2.  Fellow senior Selena Pasadyn (19:45.2) paced Brunswick with a ninth-place mark.

Dublin placed first as a team, edging second-place Brunswick by a single point.

Hudson junior Caroline Sauers was the top local finisher with a time of 19:18, good enough for third place.  Behind Sauers’ effort, the Explorers finished fourth in the team standings.

The Medina Bees finished right behind Hudson, as their top three runners finished within 25 seconds of each other.  Senior Anna Boyert (20th, 20:12.4), sophomore Maria Scaruzzo (27th, 20:26) and freshman Sarah Pack (36th, 20:37.7) led the Bees.

Rounding out the top local finishers was Nordonia freshman Leah Vesarhelyi, who finished in 25th place with a time of 10:25.2.

In the boys race, schools from the SportsInk.com coverage area represented themselves well as four of the local schools placed in the top seven.  Medina, Hudson, Brunswick and Nordonia were all among the top teams at the 24-team race.

The Bees placed third, behind champion St. Xavier and runner-up Avon Lake, as seniors Robert Robinson (16:49.5) and Brad Palocko (17:09.8) took seventh and 17th, respectively.

The Explorers, Blue Devils and Knights all finished fourth through sixth, respectively.  Hudson junior Vince Moeglin and seniors Nolan Reilly and Matt Chojnacki pushed each other to success, as the trio finished within eight seconds and nine places of each other.  Moeglin was the top finisher in 14th place, Reilly followed in 19th place and Chojnacki held down the 25th spot.

Similarly, Brunswick finished fifth, despite not having a runner in the top 30.  They made up for the lack of a frontrunner, with depth as their top three – Austin Olshavsky, Logan Indre and Tyler Menear – all placed between 34th and 38th and within four seconds of each other.

Nordonia senior Patrick Osborne was the top local finisher, placing fourth with a time of 16:44.1 to lead the Knights.
