Senior running back Brock Jones and Walsh Jesuit are the No. 1 seed in Division II, Region 5 for the 2011 OHSAA football regional quarterfinals, which start Friday, Nov. 4. Highland squeezed into the final spot in Div. II, Region 6.

 

MARION, Ohio -- Senior quarterback Kevin Besser threw three first-half touchdown passes as the point-a-minute St. Vincent-St. Mary football team remained undefeated Friday night with a resounding 62-13 win over host Marion Harding.

Besser connected with Fransohn Bickley on TD strikes of 42 and 62 yards -- the latter making the score 35-0 in the second quarter. Jordan Hargrove also caught his ninth TD pass of the season -- a 17-yarder -- also coming in the second quarter.

Senior Sae'von Fitzgerald added a 55-yard scoring run.

The Fighting Irish (7-0), ranked No. 1 in the SportsInk.com Fab 15 small school poll, are up to third in the Division III, Region 9 computer survey.

In other games:

WALSH JESUIT 41, ARCHBISHOP HOBAN 14. At Dowed Field, the Warriors (5-1, 2-0) exploded for 24 points in the third quarter to pull away from a 14-14 halftime tie with rival Hoban (0-7, 0-2).

Walsh senior running back Brock Jones scored on touchdown runs of 9, 13 and 26 yards and added a 76-yard punt return for six points in this North Coast League matchup.

Duke recruit Ross Martin connected on field goals of 45 and 50 yards in addition to five extra points.

Walsh sophomore linebacker Bryan DiCillo opened the scoring with a 35-yard interception return for a score.

Jordan Cook's 64-yard fumble return and Aaron Abernathy's 21-yard catch on a pass from quarterback Dominick Orsini provided Hoban's two touchdowns.

CUYAHOGA VALLEY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 48, FAIRLESS 14. At Navarre, the Royals (5-2, 4-0) won their fifth straight game after opening the season 0-2.

CVCA dominated the Falcons (2-5) in the first half and built a 35-0 halftime lead.

Senior running back Nathan Rosenberger had a 6-yard scoring run and caught a 4-yard TD pass from quarterback Antonio Carroscia.

Rosenberger carried 11 times for 68 yards. Drew Jordan also carried 11 times and added 54 yards to the CVCA ground attack.

The Royals are sitting ninth in the Joe Eitel Division III, Region 9 computer ranking.

MANCHESTER 48, TUSLAW 0. At New Franklin, junior Nick Peyakov threw for 265 yards as the Panthers (4-3, 3-1) galloped to a 27-0 first-quarter lead and blew out visiting Tuslaw (3-4, 1-3).

Peyakov had a scoring tosses of 25 yards to Chad Robertson, 44 yards to Dallas Edwards and 53 yards to Tyler Graves.

Graves tallied four touchdowns on the game with scoring runs of 9, 32 and 4 yards and finished with 229 rushing yards on 20 carries.

The Panthers limited Tuslaw to 135 yards of total offense.  

BUCKEYE 28, BROOKSIDE 14. At Sheffield Township, Buckeye quarterback Bill Doerge ran for three touchdowns and passed for a fourth as the Bucks (2-5, 2-2) picked up a Patriot Athletic Conference road win.

Doerge accumulated more than 300 yards of total offense.

CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 25, BARBERTON 0. At Canton, the Crusaders capitalized on six Barberton turnvovers and won their fifth straight game.

Devin Green took the opening kickoff back 99 yards for a Canton Central score.

The Magics (2-5) managed just 125 yards of total offense.
