Wadsworth volleyball loses to Brecksville

Wadsworth and Rachel Jones lost their regular-season finale to Brecksville but have a first-round bye in the playoffs.

 

WADSWORTH, Ohio – The Suburban League volleyball champion Wadsworth Grizzlies closed the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Brecksville on Saturday afternoon.

The Grizzlies, who lost 25-17, 27-29, 20-25, 25-20, 15-7, next play on Wednesday against the winner of the Akron Garfield/Kenmore match in the sectional championship at the Barberton Division I District tournament. Wadsworth has a first-round bye in the tournament.

Sabrina Parsons had 15 kills for Wadsworth. Rachel Goddard made 27 digs, while Haley Beavers assisted on 35 points. Rachel Jones served four aces. Madison Gilger and Ciera Koons each had four blocks.

SPRINGFIELD DEF. KENMORE 3-1. Springfield ended the regular season with a 25-11, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 victory over the Cardinals.

Jaime Alcorn served 13 points (including three aces) and added 14 assists for Springfield (2-19.)

Gabby Lessak served 16 points, with six aces, and added four digs. Bridgette Zickefoose served 12 points. McKenzie Hedrick (10 kills, 4 digs), Carrie Krise (7 kills, 3 digs) and Renee Manges (11 assists) contributed to the victory.
