COPLEY Twp., Ohio – Some of the top soccer talent in the area was assembled Saturday at Copley High School for the Greater Akron Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Senior All-Star Games.

It was an opportunity for area seniors to play one last match, compete against some of their most talented peers and showcase their skills in front of a handful of college coaches.

“It was amazing,” Ravenna’s Malorie Gibson said. “I had so much fun. It was my last game my senior year; it was really fun.”

Gibson scored a goal off a header with 7:44 left in the Division II match to help give the Light Jersey team a 2-0 victory over the Dark Jersey squad. She said the tone of the all-star event was much more relaxed than a typical varsity match.

“I didn’t care if we won or lost,” she said. “I just wanted to play and have fun.”

Norton’s Kailene Allis opened the scoring for the Division II Light team at the 23-minute mark of the first half.

In other girls matches, Division I Light and Dark played to a scoreless draw. Copley’s Sasha Haverchak had a couple of strong shots on goal for the Light team but couldn’t squeeze the ball into the net.

The Division III girls closed out the chilly and windy afternoon with a 3-1 victory by the Dark team. Lake Center’s Natalie Rostedt scored twice to lead the way. Rootstown’s Grace Durbak scored for the Light team after teammate Stevie Jo Adelman (Waterloo) fired a rocket shot that deflected off goalkeeper Anna McMullen (Lake Center) and Durbak easily put it to the back of the net.
