Hradek resigns as Medina football coach after one year
SPORTSINK.COM STAFF REPORT
HARWELLPHOTO.COM Medina will have its fourth head football coach in four years as Dan Sutherland takes over the program after nine years as an assistant. Sutherland, a 1997 graduate from Medina, played tight end for the Bees.
MEDINA, Ohio -- It was a tough act to follow.
Ray Hradek believed he and his coaching staff could sustain the momentum of Medina's 9-3 football season in 2010 when the Bees stunned No. 1 seed Canton McKinley in the regional quarterfinals of the the state tournament.
It did not happen.
Hradek, who teaches at Midpark, has resigned his post as Medina's head coach after one season. The Bees were 4-6 (2-3 in the NOC Valley) and with the exception of a thrilling win over Strongsville were never quite able to recapture the magic achieved the previous year under head coach Larry Laird.
Consequently the Bees will have their fourth coach in four years when preparation begins for the 2012 campaign.
Hradek cited the difficulty of teaching in one district and coaching in another as the primary reason for his departure.
