The first swimming notebook of the season features a Copley freshman, Crestwood winners and Hudson record breakers.

It did not take long for Copley freshman Madison Myers to make an impact in her first varsity swim meet.

Last Wednesday (Nov. 30) in a Suburban League dual meet at home against Green, Myers broke the pool record in the 200-yard individual medley, going 2:12.26 to better the four-year mark of DeeDee Suen (2008 Copley graduate), which was 2:13.43.

Myers also broke the pool and school records in the 100 backstroke, posting a time of 1:00.39.  The previous pool mark was 1:01.32, held by Addy Ferguson of Cloverleaf, and the previous school record of 1:00.81 was set in 2004 by Katie Angheld (2005 Copley graduate).

Red Devils claim top honors

Crestwood winners in a recent double dual meet at Independence were: senior Leah Sheaffer in the 200-yard freestyle, junior McKenzie Faust in the 100 breaststroke and freshman Daniel O'Sickey, a double winner in the 200 free and the 100 back.

The Red Devils also won the boys 400 freestyle relay, with O'Sickey contributing on that relay as well.

Hudson boys go fast at Solon

At the 29th annual Solon Relays on Saturday, Hudson's foursome of senior Jimmy Dagley, freshman Ross Palazzo, senior Adam Motter and freshman Brendon Mulcahey was clocked at 1:37.80 in the 200-yard medley relay. They shattered the meet record of 1:40.28 set in 1999 by Shaker Heights.

Dagley, Motter and Mulcahey, along with senior Cooper Goeke, also edged out of one of the oldest records on the books in the 200 freestyle relay. Hudson was timed at 1:29.46, besting the previous mark of 1:29.71 set in 1987 by Solon.

The Explorers broke a third meet record in the 400 free relay (Copper Goeke, Ross Palazzo, Ryan Hutcheson and Jimmy Dagley), but were topped by first-place Upper Arlington. Hudson was timed at 3:17.00; however, Upper posted a meet record time of 3:16.75.  The old mark of 3:17.52 was set in 1987 by Solon.
