Rookies are leading the Copley girls swimming team

COPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – It was a happy New Year’s Day for the Copley boys and girls swimming teams after a dual-meet sweep of the visiting Twinsburg Tigers on Friday, Dec. 30.
The Copley girls edged Twinsburg 89-81 and three freshmen led the way for the Indians. Madison Myers and Brenda Prifti each won four events and first-year varsity swimmers Laura Klions and Emma Round each won twice as Copley squeezed past the Tigers.
Myers won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.84) and the 100 free (54.32) as well as the 200 free (1:46.84) and 400 free (3:56.77) relays.
Prifti won the 200 individual medley (2:21.77) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.44) and swan a leg on both the 200 free and 400 free relays.
Klions won the 500 free (5:46.10) and helped win the 400 free relay.
Round won the 100 breaststroke (1:19.45) and helped win the 200 free relay. She also took second in the 50 free.
Junior Samantha Stauffer won three times for Twinsburg (200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 butterfly). Twinsburg was clocked at 2:06.09 in the medley relay and Stauffer swam times of 27.57 in the 50 and 1:08.24 in the fly.
The Copley boys overwhelmed Twinsburg 122-47. The Indians won all 11 events and were led by junior Cooper Comstock, senior Chris Lane and senior Henry Signore.
