Wrestling: Copley wins Woodridge Stammen tourney

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio – Copley topped seven other schools including host Woodridge at the Janet Stammen Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Seven Indians wrestlers advanced to the championship match of their respective weight classes, and five of them won.

At 138 pounds, senior Zach Walker defeated Woodridge junior Pat Dickenson, 10-9, to win the championship. Matt Nedolast won the 145 title, defeating Woodridge senior Alex Minns, 3-1.

Justin Hastings defeated Woodridge’s Trevon Burgins, 6-4, in the 160-pound championship. At 182 pounds, Isaiah Wheeler pinned Luke Boswell, of Canton McKinley, in 3:51. Rounding out the champions for Copley was 195-pounder Gabe Dorsey, who earned the major decision over Orrville’s Nathan Simon, 13-4.

Brett Powell and Josh Tomayko advanced to the championship matches at 113 pounds and 132 pounds, respectively.

Two Woodridge wrestlers also won their weight classes as senior Brian Downs pinned junior Ruben Burrows (Canton McKinley) in 1:11 in the 152-pound title, and Mason Hilling won the 220-pound championship by pinning Bedford’s Jonathan Morgan-Cunningham in 2:48.
