Stow-Munroe Falls swimming teams sweep dual meet

Stow-Munroe Falls sophomore Ainsley Wilbur completed a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard butterfly on Tuesday as the Bulldogs swept a dual meet from visiting Wadsworth.

 

STOW, Ohio – The Stow-Munroe Falls swimming and diving teams are getting ready for Senior Night on Friday against North Royalton.

But before the Bulldogs are able to give their seniors a spirited sendoff, there was the matter of a home dual meet Tuesday against Wadsworth at the Akron General Health & Wellness Center-North.

Stow overwhelmed Wadsworth 113-41 in the girls meet and 112-64 in the boys. The Bulldogs won 20 of 24 events, including first-place points for diving (which is not a championship event in the Suburban League), and captured first and second place points in two girls relays (200 medley, 400 freestyle).

Sophomore Cody Vantrease won two individual events and two relays for Stow on the boys side.  He was clocked at 2:11.75 in winning the 200-yard IM and 57.25 in winning the 100 butterfly.

Freshman Kelsey Wenk also won two individual events and two relays for the Stow girls. Wenk won the 100 freestyle in 57.27 and the 100 backstroke in 1:09.70.

Stow senior Megan Kolke won the 100 butterfly (1:09.09) and placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.46).

Athena Miller is the fourth-year coach of the Bulldogs.

Senior Mike Pavlak and sophomore Ellie Surratt were top-point producers for the Grizzlies.

Pavlak won the 50 freestyle (23.47), 100 breaststroke (1:03.90) and the 200 free relay (1:38.71).

Surratt captured the 50 free (26.42) and took second in the 100 free (57.37).

Stow is competing this season as a member of the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division.

Wadsworth’s teams are in transition for a second season while their on-site pool facility is being constructed. The Barberton Lake Anna YMCA has again served as the Grizzlies’ interim training site.
