TWINSBURG, Ohio – Solon sophomore point guard Ny Redding has had to grow up fast.

And on Tuesday, he led his Comets to a 68-49 Northeast Ohio Conference boys basketball win over rival Twinsburg (9-6).

Solon (7-9) has won four straight and six of its last eight games since opening 1-7.

Redding had to cut his varsity basketball teeth against some the best point guards in Ohio, including Stow-Munroe Falls senior David Walker and future Louisville Cardinal Terry Rozier of Shaker Heights.

“We were a real young team to start the season, playing a difficult schedule,” Solon coach Bob Patton said. “Every team we played, it was one undefeated team after another.

“Ny is getting better and better. He got thrown to the wolves early and now he’s better for it.”

Redding scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, highlighted by a 9-of-11 effort from the foul line.

“I think (our tough schedule) helped me play harder and want it more, but I’ve got to stay humble and keep playing,” Redding said.

Solon outscored Twinsburg in each quarter and controlled the game from the outset, leading 15-7 after the first quarter.

On top 17-13 midway through the second quarter, the Comets used a decisive 9-0 run to build a 30-20 halftime lead. Twinsburg cut its deficit to nine points three times in the second half, but would get no closer.

Hall of Fame coach Bob Pacsi and his Tigers were without the services of 6-foot-4 junior A.J. Edwards, who was sidelined with a sprained ankle.

“I’ll take the break because we haven’t caught too many breaks this season,” Patton said.

Senior guard Malik Billingsley paced Twinsburg with 21 points and was the only Tiger in twin figures.

Senior Denzell Davis had 12 points and six rebounds and junior Josh Glass 11 points and eight rebounds for Solon.
