Coach John Gramuglia and the Wadsworth wrestling team are looking to win their 20th Suburban League title in a row.

There’s bad news coming out of Wadsworth for the rest of the Suburban League.

The Grizzlies – with Brandon Jones (120 pounds) and Aaron Warstler (138) back – are healthy, and Wadsworth will wrestle with its full lineup for the first time this season.

That means returning conference champions Kagan Squire (132 pounds) and Nick Tavanello (285) will have company with conference runners-up Jones, Warstler, Jordan Schleigh (113), Chris Baughman (145) and C.J. Edwards (160) this weekend at Revere.

“I think we’re putting it together,” Grizzlies coach John Gramuglia said. “Our young kids are getting the feel of the schedule.

“I thought we looked really good against Walsh Jesuit (in a dual last week). Every week we’ve been getting better. You have to trust in the system. It’s a compliment to everybody in knowing how it runs.”

How Wadsworth has made its run is a testament to continuity as the Grizzlies will look to win or share the league title for the 20th straight year.

That means the last time Wadsworth didn’t win the SL, George H. Bush was president and “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix A-Lot was the rage in dance clubs.

“Twenty is a huge statement in our program,” Gramuglia said. “You think about consistency, but there are some strong teams in our league.

“It’s not like it’s weak. It might sound repetitive, but it kicks off for us right here. We’re excited. Our motto is 20, nothing else matters after that. The next milestone is 25 and then 30.”

City Series

League champions Caleb Easton (145) and Steven Vinson (220) are back to defend the City Series title for Kenmore as well as runner-up Jacob Williamson (132).

Firestone could be in the mix, however, with Tom Lehman (152), Edmond Williams (170), David James (220) and Art Sherman (285) challenging the Cardinals.

North Coast League

Padua outpaced Walsh Jesuit last weekend in the Warriors’ conference debut. Stefan Plevris (113), Cory Stainbrook (120), Nate Skonieczny (138), Brad Ward (152), Dominic Scarberry (160) and Nick Rumple (170) all took home titles for Walsh. Michael Kostandaras (126) finished second.

More Suburban League

Highland figures to fare well after Wadsworth with Lazar Vilimonovic (160) returning as league champion and Colin Rininger (2nd, 145), Adam Kluk (2nd, 170), James Kunzler (3rd, 132), Domenic Ravanelli (4th, 138) back as placers.

Green’s Chris Doyle (106 pounds) is the only other returning champion.

Patriot Athletic Conference

Since its inception in the fall of 2005, the PAC Tournament title has never gone outside of Medina County, with Black River winning it the first three years, Buckeye the next two and Black River again last season.

That could change as Keystone is the heavy favorite with three returning champions.

The only returning champion back for the Pirates is Mike Hozan (113), although Terry Sas (2nd, 220) Spencer White (3rd, 120), Josh Hopkins (4th, 160) and Jake Maund (4th, 170) return as placers for Black River.

Portage Trail Conference

Jake Zemaitis (106), Connor Nemec (113), Dylan Kagar (132) and captain Nick Fejedelem (138) will try to keep the team title in Crestwood this season with hard-charging Coventry – a fourth-place finisher at the Bill Dies Memorial – coming on strong.

The rest of the field is wide open as Field's T.J. Fox (140), Garrettsville Garfield’s Tyler Knepper (126), Rootstown's Garrett Linton (171), Streetsboro’s Kelly Baker (220) and Waterloo's Nick Hermann (119) are the only other returning champions.
