Highland freshman Tanner Houska and the Hornets defeated Revere 56-44 on Friday in Suburban League boys basketball action.
GREEN, Ohio – The Green Bulldogs took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter on Friday night but lost to Suburban League rival Wadsworth 53-40 in boys basketball action.
The Grizzlies (9-7, 7-4 Suburban League) hit 11-of-13 free throws in the final quarter to rally for the victory over the Bulldogs (10-6, 8-3).
Senior forward Josh Kipfer scored 19 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to pace Wadsworth.
Junior Ryan Sheppard added 11 points for the Grizzlies, who outscored Green 34-22 in the second half.
Green got 18 points from junior Dan Fanelly and 15 points from senior Evan Keeslar. Senior Adrew Pratt grabbed 10 rebounds to pair with his nine points for Green, which held Wadsworth to just three points in the second quarter.
Senior Jack Snowball scored eight points for Wadsworth.
MENTOR 104, MEDINA 71. At Mentor, the Cardinals hit 17 3-pointers en route to the victory over the visiting Bees.
Justin Fritts led the way for Mentor with 23 points, followed by Caleb Potter (14 points), Mitch Trubisky (12), Jeff Foreman (11) and Danny Wallack (10).
Junior Billy Geschke had 17 points for Medina. Logan Winkler, another junior, added 10.
AKRON GARFIELD 61, BUCHTEL 59. At Buchtel Highh School, four players scored double digits for the Golden Rams in the win over the Griffins.
Senior Darius Hoisten dropped in 15 and grabbed 16 rebounds for Garfield (8-9, 6-6 Akron City Series). Senior Dezmond Love also put up a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Brelyn Brewton had 13 points and seven rebounds, and senior Jorden Boykin scored 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists.
Buchtel’s Elijah Bell led the Griffins with 16 points. Juniors Tyler Jones and Jalen Ruffin scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
HIGHLAND 56, REVERE 44. At Granger Township, the host Hornets outscored the Minutemen in each of the final three quarters to earn the victory.
Austin Adams and Adam Bialosky each scored 11 points for Highland (8-8, 5-6).
Senior Mitch Ruetty put up 23 points for Revere (2-14, 2-9), and teammate sophomore Jordan Holtkamp dropped in 10 points.
KENMORE 90, NORTH 57. At North High School, the visiting Cardinals took an early lead against the Vikings and made it stand in the City Series matchup.
Senior Antonio Hearn went off for 29 points, including three 3-pointers and an 8-of-8 effort from the free-throw line to lead Kenmore.
Kenmore’s Oshay Vinson (15 points), David Oldham (12) and Desean Ballinger (11) each hit double figures for the Cardinals, who outscored North 41-15 in the first half.
Junior Damon Bowman put up 30 points for North.
CUYAHOGA VALLEY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 55, MANCHESTER 48. At New Franklin, CVCA junior Bob Peters lit up the scoreboard with 30 points to lead the Royals (11-6) past the Panthers (5-10).
Senior Seth Chappell scored 11 points, and sophomore Austin Klein put up 10 points for Manchester.
