COLUMBUS -- The OHSAA Division I boys cross country championship didn't quite work out the way either Hudson or Medina would have liked.
Both teams were hoping for a top-five finish, but neither peaked for a contending spot despite a sun-splashed day in central Ohio.
Hudson placed seventh (195 points), while Medina finished 11th (235).
The local story in D-I boys was the 1-2 tandem of seniors Kyle Wheeler and Dylan Papp from Green High School. A year ago, the two runners led the Bulldogs to an overall fourth-place finish; however, this year the team did not qualify
Wheeler placed third, covering the 5,000 course at Scioto Downs in 15:55.07, less than 10 seconds behind the winner Zach Wills of Mason.
Papp, who has battled injuries on and off most of the season, placed seventh (16:03.65).
Last year, Papp placed fifth and Wheeler eighth.
