Amber Silver, Krissy Sokol and Megan McCarthy all have signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at Walsh University.
NORTH CANTON -- Walsh University volleyball scouts were a constant presence in Summit and Medina County this fall. Their persistence paid off as three of the top seniors in the area have signed national letters of intent with the NAIA college.
Manchester middle hitter Amber Silver, Archbishop Hoban outside hitter Krissy Sokol and Cloverleaf middle hitter Megan McCarthy have all committed to continue their VB careers with the Cavaliers.
Silver, who stands 5-foot-10, was a four-year letterwinner and four-time all-league honoree for the Panthers. She also was named Manchester's team MVP in 2007, 2008 and 2009. A first-team All-District honoree, Silver plans on majoring in chemistry.
"She has the athletic ability to be a dominant force for us and in the conference," Walsh coach Krista Burrows said. "She has a tough-nosed attititude that we need."
Sokol, 5-9, helped the Knights make a nice tournament run in Division II from her spot in the right side. She was a second-team All-District selection and plans on majoring in education
"She is what I call a high flyer, and her speed will add another element to our offense," Burrows said. "She has tremendous energy and is always smiling."
The 6-0 McCarthy played an integral role in the Colts winning three straight Suburban League championships (and 42 consecutive SL matches). She was an All-Medina County selection this fall and played in the District 3 All-Star Match, where one of her opponents was Silver.
"Megan is a middle that has flown under the radar in her career," Burrows said. "She is a great blocker and plays with so much energy."
