AKRON -- Kenmore High School senior Cody Lamberg has been wrestling for most of his life, and it shows. Fresh off  winning his weight class for the third straight year at the Solon Comet Classic and being named the Classic's Outstanding Wrestler, Cody is this week's SportsInk.com Athlete of the Week.

Surprisingly agile for a 171-pounder, Cody was a crowd favorite at the Comet Classic last Friday and Saturday. "Cody wrestles like the younger kids, who usually are at 103 and 112 pounds," Kenmore coach Lee Thompson said. "He wrestles the way they do, constant action. He's moving in ways big guys just don't move."

Cody in four years wrestling for the Cardinals of Kenmore has 125 wins and just 12 losses and two fourth-place finishes at the state tournament. “This year I have looked to improve my attacking skills to do better at the state tournament,” Cody said.

He started wrestling at the age of 5 and has no plans to stop anytime soon as he looks to take his wrestling skills to the college level.

"I was a young chubby kid out of shape when I started wrestling," he said. "Now I would look at myself and say I am a determined young man with desire and a will to win.

"I just keep attacking, trying to up the ante just a little bit more. My No. 1 goal is to win state and that's all that matters to me."

Cody, the son of Becky and Victor, says his toughest match was an 8-7 loss last year at districts to former Perry Panther and current OSU Buckeye Nick Heflin. “That one stands out to me,” he said.
