Jacob North receives honor as Athlete of the Week for Dec. 13-19.

This week’s SportsInk.com’s Athlete of the Week is the magic man for the Barberton boys basketball team, Jacob North.

North, a three-year starter and four-year member of the Barberton basketball team, is averaging 22 points per game. He scored 27 in the team's win over Tallmadge and 25 points in Tuesday's victory over Wadsworth.

“I started playing basketball because my mother made me go to a practice,” North said. “It is great being part of Barberton basketball, as I used to come to the games to watch the Magics when I was a kid,” North said.

Well, Jacob North has etched his own name in Barberton basketball history. He is currently ranked 17th on the all-time scoring list and will be No. 2 on the all-time 3-point shot list by the time he is done.

North was an All-Ohio guard last year for the Magics -- and then he put together a great baseball season, during which he hit .500 and smacked five home runs. North has accepted a scholarship to the University of Toledo to play baseball. “It was a very hard choice to choose baseball in college, but the education at Toledo won out,” North said.

When North talks about his days on the court for Barberton, he thinks of two individuals: four-year starter Adam Moore and coach Ken Rector. “Adam had a ton of talent but was the hardest worker on the team, and that is what I picked up from him,” he said. “Coach is a great person and I would not have wanted to be coached by any other coach.”

The son of Leslie and Roger North, Jacob North carries a 4.6 grade point average.

North has been magic for Barberton for the last four years and his powers will be remembered for a long time in the Magic City.
