It has been a while since the Mogadore Wildcats have won a district championship in baseball. In fact, for freshman infielder Danny Sentelik it’s practically been a lifetime since Mogadore last played in the regional semifinals in 1997.
"I don’t think I can describe it. It is beyond anything I’ve been a part of,” Wildcat coach Chris Mossa said of his team winning the district championship. “Just unbelievable happiness, complete joy.
“It’s a shame we have to wait (until Thursday) to play because we’re ready to go now.”
That 1997 team was the second of back-to-back squads that not only won district championships, but regional crowns as well, advancing to the state semifinals.
Last Wednesday, Mogadore held off Rittman 4-3 to win the district thanks in learge measure to senior Ryan Milush and sophomore Anthony Ricci, each with two RBI. It was the Wildcats' ninth victory in 10 games.
