The strong senior leadership that has helped the Southeast boys basketball team gain sole possession of first place in the Portage Trail Conference County Division, may help the Pirates maintain their position throughout the final games of the season.
Senior Noah Kainrad has been at the helm of the first-place squad. His 16 points-per-game is leading the team, which has won six-straight games.
“Noah’s a leader,” said Southeast head coach Matt Dillon. “He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid.”
In the fall, Kainrad led the Southeast football team to a division championship as the starting quarterback.
“We’re really fortunate to have him in the program,” Dillon said. “It’s a lot of fun for the coaching staff to coach him.”
All five of the Pirates’ remaining games are against conference opponents, including a trip to Mogadore on Friday.
In the last meeting on Dec. 23, Southeast defeated Mogadore 59-48.
