MEDINA -- The votes are in and the seeds have been awarded for the 2010 OHSAA girls basketball sectional/district tournaments.
The biggest news locally was Green being voted the No. 1 seed at the Ellet Division I draw, while Suburban League rival Wadsworth was tabbed No. 2.
The Bulldogs and Grizzlies split their two regular-season meetings, but Green struck the most recent blow, which was enough to earn the nod from the 13 coaches at the site.
Hudson and Firestone rounded out the top four seeds at Ellet, which will play its district championship game March 6 at 1 p.m.
Continuing the district title contender theme, the current Associated Press state poll has Twinsburg ranked fourth in Division I, Walsh Jesuit ranked first in Division II, and Manchester ranked 12th in Division III.
The Tigers feature 6-foot-4 sophomore Malina Howard and won an early-season game at Walsh Jesuit. The Warriors lost in the 2009 Ontario Regional championship game, but return the core of that team, including 6-foot-1 senior Nneka Offodile and sophomore point guard Rachel Theriot.
Coach Tucker Pappas and Manchester will be challenged to survive the Wooster Triway District, having to get past strong teams in Orrville and Smithville.
Another team with dreams of making it to Columbus for the state semifinals is Division IV Mogadore. The Wildcats are unranked, but are defending district champions with two 1,000-point scorers in seniors Jordan Poth and Amanda Sidwell.
All of the tournament draws in the Northeast District were conducted Sunday at Medina High.
