WALSH JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL
The Walsh Jesuit Warriors (16-10) open Div. II regional play on Thursday against Salem at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. The Warriors have won six straight matches heading to the regional.

SHARON CENTER -- Four Summit/Medina County volleyball teams have advanced to the regional tournaments in Division I and Division II.

Wednesday at Hudson High School in the Div. I bracket, Wadsworth (21-3) and Painesville Riverside (23-3) meet at 6 p.m., followed by Stow-Munroe Falls (14-11) and Brecksville (22-3).

Wadsworth, led by senior Jenna Samsa, won the Barberton District by outlasting Canton GlenOak, Green and Massillon Jackson to win the district title. This year's event featured several upsets and five-game matches, including No. 1 seed Cloverleaf losing to Jackson.

Stow was 10-11 when the regular season ended, but the Bulldogs were able to string together four wins at their Stow District, inlcuding a 3-2 championship win over Boardman, to gain a repeat trip to regionals. Stow landed a rematch from last year's regional semifinal against Brecksville. A year ago, the Bees ended Stow's season by a 3-1 count.

Thursday at Stow-Munroe Falls High School  in the Div. II bracket, Walsh Jesuit (16-10) and Salem (23-3) face off at 6 p.m., followed by Buckeye (23-2) and Mentor Lake Catholic (19-6).

Walsh Jesuit, much like Stow, had a so-so regular season, but has peaked late, ripping off six straight wins, including a 3-2 win over Cloverleaf on Oct. 17. Senior Allison Foschia was named first-team All-District. The Warriors were 10-10 on Oct. 7 after a home loss to Padua.

Buckeye is making its first-ever regional appearance and is led District Player of the Year Marah Farage. Earlier this season, Farage topped 1,000 career kills and became the all-time Medina County leader in the category. Buckeye leader Brianne Indorf was recently tabbed the district Coach of the Year.
