JEFF'S CORNER KICKS

As a boy, Dustin Kyer wondered if he’d ever achieve his dream of being a Ravenna Raven.

Kyer, a sophomore at Ravenna High School, has learned to cope with mild cerebral palsy. But it seemed his disability might prevent him from wearing the royal blue and white.
 
He started as the water boy for the Raven football team; however, that wasn’t going to scratch the itch. Kyer let it be known he’d like to learn to play soccer and be a part of the team. Word reached varsity coach Scot Etling and he invited him to join.
 
“I’ve always wanted to play sports, but my parents are scared. I wanted to do wrestling, but I couldn’t,” Kyer said. “To wear a jersey with this name on it (Ravenna)… it’s awesome.  I’ve always been a Ravenna Raven fanatic. I don’t know how else to put it.”
 
Etling said having Kyer in the program has been a win-win situation.
