Cavalier attitude

NORTH CANTON -- Walsh University volleyball scouts were a constant presence in Summit and Medina County this fall. Their persistence paid off as three of the top seniors in the area have signed national letters of intent with the NAIA college.

Manchester middle hitter Amber Silver, Archbishop Hoban outside hitter Krissy Sokol and Cloverleaf middle hitter Megan McCarthy have all committed to continue their VB careers with the Cavaliers.

Silver, who stands 5-foot-10, was a four-year letterwinner and four-time all-league honoree for the Panthers. She also was named Manchester's team MVP in 2007, 2008 and 2009. A first-team All-District honoree, Silver plans on majoring in chemistry.

"She has the athletic ability to be a dominant force for us and in the conference," Walsh coach Krista Burrows said. "She has a tough-nosed attititude that we need."

Sokol, 5-9, helped the Knights make a nice tournament run in Division II from her spot in the right side. She was a second-team All-District selection and plans...
